Okay, at this point we all know that make-up (along with just about every other single mainstream "product or service" available to us) is highly toxic for our delicate love messenger bodies. I'm part excited about the opportunity to try new things, part GrrrrrrArgHumph!
Aside from the obvious FD&C Red, "Fragrance", types of poison, from what I've learned so far one of the most important things to avoid is nan-particles of any ingredient. These little bastards can cross the cell barrier and set up shop in organs. Parabens, another no no are endocrine disrupters. Talc is another one I've heard bad things about, turns out it in the same family as asbestos. ew. Okay and the list goes on, but it's a starting point at least. Pretty much, if you can't pronounce it or don't know what it is without Google, you likely should not slather it all over the largest organ in your body.
First Candidate: My Mom suggested a Babson alumni and referred me to Ava Anderson. I like it. Everything about the company has my attention. All non-toxic products ranging across many categories all with very short understandable ingredient lists and detailed explanations of most common toxins. I couldn't wait to try the make up! I ordered the blush, the BB cream and the powder foundation.
The BB cream isn't really my style, but I tried it and hoped it would inspire me to change my routine. No go. I prefer more of a concealer rather the thin creamy textured all over face serum, it wasn't quite enough coverage and felt sticky.
The powder foundation, sadly, didn't work for me. Only two colors and the closest one to my tone was still way too orange for me. I love the fact that these products consist of very few ingredients some of which include french clay, silk powder and arrowroot but it was just too weighty. It mucked up my make up brush and felt too heavy on my face. :(
Best for last, the blush, it's great! Love the color and the powder doesn't feel heavy at all. I'll look out for when they expand their swatch and get a lighter rosey pink on the roster as well! I will say I intend to give Ava Anderson more business when my Quest for the ultimate home, garden and auto products arrives.
