In just under a month, I have learned there is so much more to it than solely refraining from the consumption of animal products. This is the most common definition for being Vegan and there are even disputes over this! For instance, if you eat honey are you a "true" vegan? More on that later though! For now, I offer the 4 Faces of Vegan that I've come up with so far:
1. Diet: Plant, legume, grain, nut based. No meat, No fish, No dairy, No eggs, no food or ingredient that is derived from animals and the Farm-Industrial-Complex.
2. Products: Do your cosmetics, shampoos, body care, hair, etc products contain animal by-products? What about your clothes, shoes or furniture? Maybe work towards reading labels and replacing certain things with friendlier alternatives?
3. Animal Testing: Whether it is testing cosmetics or for "scientific discovery" experimenting on animals is unacceptable.
4. Hunting: Literally nothing Vegan...or moral or respectable or conscious...about it. Unless of course you're from Avatar.
Four faces for now and many more to be revealed I'm sure.
