For lunch, my boyfriend and I went to a hotdog joint on the boulevard, it has an exciting array of condiments from sauerkraut to pickles to tomato/cucumber salad and more. My boyfriend, (still in the process of phasing out meat from his diet and challenging me to practice compassion) is incredibly supportive of my decision and asked the old man behind the counter if I could just have a bun to fill with condiments. The man happily agreed, giving it for free and offering to warm it up for me, we shared this exchange:
Hotdog man: "Ahh, so you don't eat anything from an animal..." to which
I replied "that's right sir, I love animals so I don't want to
contribute to hurting them." He smiled and said, "You're right animals
are better than people, especially dogs." I smiled and took my
eclectically filled hotdog-less bun to the table. I was reminded how
unfair it is that cows, pigs, chickens and other farm animals are used
and exploited instead of loved an respected like our dogs and cats.
Ultimately, as I reflect on this short exchange with YogiDog man, I realize he was just a messenger from God affirming that I am on the right path. I am so thankful!
