The conflict continues...I buy organic free range chicken from Trader Joe's for Dende. And every time I feel a little bit guilty, a little bit ashamed, a little bit hypocritical, like I want to make sure everyone in the store knows it's not for me, it's for my special doggie friend!
The bottom line is, a vast amount of the reason I choose Vegan is because of the corrupt, inhumane, unsanitary and evil food-industrial-complex. As long as we continue to vote "yes" with our wallets, checking out meat and dairy products, the system will persist. Even if it is for Dende, I'm still casting the wrong vote.
I have always rested on the crutch that if Dende were a little wild dog, he would eat meat in his natural environment. However, the fact that Dende is not a wild dog and is more like a spoiled teenager, means my reasoning doesn't hold up. More info HERE
I am discovering that like people, dogs are omnivores, meaning their bodies have adapted to process both meat and a plant based diet. There is of course the famous story of Bramble the Vegan Border Collie earning herself a place in the Guiness World Records for being the oldest living dog! It makes sense. Dog "food" like people "food" is processed and manipulated, preserved and toxic.
Dende, it's only a matter of time before we're sharing meals! Until then I think I'll just Rest In God knowing that day by day in every way my Vegan Practice is getting stronger!
